I want to take this opportunity to thank Mr. 이 상훈 (근로감독관님) for his outstanding and impressive foreigner friendly service which he has offered me while trying to collect overdue wages from my employer.
Unlike some bad rumors about filing labor complaints at the Korean labor board, I received the best service from any government agency in the world. My first and foremost concern was not being able to speak Korean well enough to explain my side of the story during the meeting with Mr. 이 상훈. Upon arrival at his office, he greeted me cheerfully in English and made me feel at ease. Not only that, it appeared that he had been already working on my case with my employer prior to my arrival at his office. The case was already at the final stage so when my employer’s representative arrived at Mr. 이 상훈’s office, all we had to do was just confirm when my employer would pay my overdue money. I was pleasantly surprised by his effectiveness and efficiency in handling of my case. During the whole process of discussion between Mr. 이 상훈, my employer’s representative, and me, he was translating everything that was being said in Korean into English so that I understood the entire proceeding.
It is very obvious that Mr. 이 상훈 enjoys his work and does his job well to help people in need including foreign workers. I have never seen or met such a confident civil service officer who does his job so well for the service of not only to Korean people, but also foreign workers like me.
I can’t thank and praise Mr. 이 상훈 enough for what he has done for me and my family. I am forever indebted to him and also to the office which he represents. He is the “Shining Star” of Korea in making this nation one of the greatest countries in the world in offering equal justice for people in need regardless of people’s race or nationality.
