Employment and Labor Minister Kim Young-joo addressed the 107th session of the International Labour Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland on June 5th (Tue.) where she spoke on Korea’s policies aimed at realizing gender equality in the world of work.

Minister Kim explained that under the Moon Jae-in government, many changes are taking place in Korea’s labor policy to realize a society where labor is respected, and introduced Korea’s various policies aimed at eliminating the causes of women’s career interruptions, eradicating discrimination and violence against women, improving work arrangements and culture, and getting more women into senior-level positions.

The Minister also pointed out that in many countries, including Korea, women have fewer opportunities than men to participate in the labor market and are suffering from widespread discrimination in terms of hiring, promotion and wages and violence and harassment in the workplace. She declared the Korean government’s active support for the ILO’s Woman at Work Initiative.
