Employment and Labor Minister Lee Ki-kweon met with the employers and employee representatives of 11 companies, including SK Hynix, which had led the way in implementing labor reforms - including pursuing win-win cooperation between principal contractors and subcontractors, restructuring wage systems into  job- and performance-based ones and making HRM systems more competency-based - at Korea Press Center (Foreign Correspondents' Club) on the morning of September 29th to give encouragement to them and listen to their opinions.

The meeting was organized to provide employers and workers from companies which had put into practice win-win cooperation between principal contractors and subcontractors and other labor reforms through dialogue and cooperation with the opportunity to share their experiences and achievements and to broadly exchange opinions on the government's support policies with a view to spreading those experiences and achievements.

Minister Lee said in his opening remarks, "With technology advancing and employment circumstances changing rapidly, labor reform has become an urgent national task, and despite difficult conditions, the consensus on labor reform is spreading across workplaces."

He also said, "In particular, we should cleary recognize that providing more and better jobs to our sons and daughters is the mission of our time. And to accomplish this mission, it is essential to improve the quality of jobs in SMEs through win-win cooperation between principal contractors and subcontractors, restructure wage systems, entrench fair human resources management and remove uncertainty from major labor market regulations, such as on wages, working hours and labor contracts, thereby creating the conditions for companies to hire more youths as regular employees."
