Employment and Labor Minister Lee Ki-kweon signed an MOU with companies found by a demand survey to have high demand for convertible part-time jobs, leading companies in decent part-time employment, business organizations, etc., at the medium conference room of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the morning of August 24th to spread convertible part-time job schemes with a view to preventing career breaks and overcoming low fertility.

The Minister emphasized at the signing ceremony, "Convertible part-time job schemes, which include reducing working hours during pregnancy or child care, would prevent women from taking a career break, improve corporate productivity and innovation by increasing satisfaction and efficiency at work and serve as an important means to overcome low fertility and low growth."

He asked the signatory companies to play a leading role in creating a good model and business organizations to entrench, in cooperation with the government, a virtuous circle for work-family balance, which enables workers to switch between full-time and part-time status according to their life stage when necessary.
