The Ministry of Employment and Labor (Minister Lee Ki-kweon) held the 'meeting to spread a competency-based personnel management culture' at the Korea Federation of Banks in Myeong-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul on the morning of March 22nd with a view to building a job- or performance-based wage system and firmly establishing fair personnel management, both of which are key labor reform tasks that should be implemented at the workplace level.

Minister Lee emphasized in his welcoming remarks, "Spreading a competency-based personnel management culture would allow hard working employees to work beyond the age of 60, make it possible for companies to move away from the tendency to prefer in-house subcontracting towards directly hiring young people and provide the opportunity to boost corporate competitiveness."

He said that MOEL will actively provide guidance to workplaces during wage and collective bargaining so that their labor and management take part in voluntary win-win employment and competency-based human resources management.

Meanwhile, he added, getting momentum from today's meeting, MOEL will regularly hold meetings (forum to spread a competency-based personnel management culture) at which businesses, workers, and professors in the fields of personnel management and business administration gather for discussion to spread a competency-based personnel management culture.
