The Ministry of Employment and Labor (MOEL, Minister Kim Young-joo) said that the first meeting of the 'employment and labor administration reform committee' was held at the Seoul Regional Employment and Labor Office on November 1st (Wed.) 2017.
At the meeting, Minister Kim Young-joo presented a certificate of appointment to each committee member in person and then discussed the committee's future activity plan.
The 'employment and labor administration reform committee' will operate for the next six months and hold a meeting at least once a month to look at irrational employment and labor administration systems and practices and discuss directions for institutional improvement.
The committee is composed of ten experts inside or outside the Ministry, and its eight external experts are mainly from academic and legal circles. Lee Byoung-hoon, a professor at Chung-Ang University, was elected as its chairperson by a mutual vote among the members at the meeting.
Employment and Labor Minister Kim Young-joo said, "I hope that with regard to irrational systems and practices that have emerged so far, the employment and labor administration reform committee will propose directions for employment and labor administration that can meet the needs of the people, produce tangible effects for the people and bring happiness to the people."
She also said, "As for employment and labor policies that have been continued just because they are customary, we will go back to square one and conduct a review to find out whether there is any unreasonable aspect and then make reforms."
